ST. THOMAS — Get ready for some finger lickin’ fun at the 10th annual King of the Wing contest Saturday at Magens Bay beach.

Teams consisting of local restaurants, businesses, organizations and chicken wing connoisseurs will set up their grills and cooking stations on the beach from noon to 5 p.m. to cook up mouthwatering chicken wings for more than thousands of attendees and claim bragging rights for the best tasting wings on the island.

Celebrity guest judge Drew Cerza, aka the “Wing King,” will taste all competitors’ wings. His individual scores alone will break the tie between the two first place winners to crown the Ultimate King of the Wing. Last year, 42 teams competed for the title.

A new highlight for this year is the prize package for the winner of the restaurant division to compete at the National Buffalo Wing Festival, founded by Drew Cerza. KOW will provide airfare and hotel accommodations for two people to participate in the 2019 Wing Fest in Buffalo, N.Y., during Labor Day weekend.

Also new this year, KOW will feature a voice competition with a chance for the winner to take home $1,000. The Voice of KOW has been offered to all high schools on St. Thomas. Five contestants will perform during the event.

DJ JSmoke, Dhundee and the V.I.’s own Deli Banger will keep the music jamming. Special guests world champion beatboxer KRFNX and producer, composer and beatboxer Taylor McFerrein will also take the KOW stage this year.

Organized by Alpine Securities and White Bay Group, King of the Wing serves as a crucial fundraising platform for local charities. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Junior Achievement of the Virgin Islands, a nonprofit dedicated to preparing young people in the Virgin Islands to succeed in the global economy.
