The Virgin Islands Rising Stars Competition “Rock da Club” will be held tonight at Krush Night Club on St. Thomas at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $20 at the door.

V.I. Rising Stars is a youth calypso band competition providing a platform for young and upcoming island bands to showcase their talents. Hosted by Five Star Promotion, the Rising Stars will feature five bands: Above Average Krew from St. Croix, Total Mass Krew from St. Thomas, All Bout Music and Dramma Tyme Band from Tortola, and Pure Mass Band from Virgin Gorda. This year, the competition has merged with Master Minds and Promo By Putna to give the USVI a segment of the competition. “Rock Da Club” is the first time the youth bands of the BVI will play on St. Thomas.

Each band had to create a festival theme song for the competition. They are all released on the Virgin Islands Rising Stars Facebook page and sound-cloud. This competition hopes to motivate other young musicians and act as a stepping stone for these bands to be future V.I. entertainers. Some of these bands have already been given opportunities to perform on festival village platforms. In addition to the bands, there will also be a Rising Stars DJ competition on the Tortola leg which will include DJ Kee of Tortola, Dj Yowdy of St. Thomas and Selecta Mad 1 of St. Croix.
