Business After Hours set for Thursday on St. Thomas

The next St. Thomas-St. John Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours will be held at Comprehensive Orthopaedic Global at COG Restore in the Royal Palm Professional Building on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be complimentary hors d’oeuvres, door prizes, a raffle and the $3 Chamber bar.

SBA’s Lender Match tool is available online

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) reminds the small business community of its online referral tool, Lender Match, to connect small business borrowers with participating SBA lenders. The free online tool allows small business owners to fill out a quick online form, without registration, and then connects them with lenders within 48 hours. In addition, borrowers also receive counseling information and resources from the SBA within their local area. Prospective borrowers can go to www.sba.gov/lendermatch to get matched with any number of institutions and increase their access to capital. Financial conference to help victims of domestic abuse

The National Network to End Domestic Violence will present a train the trainer conference in “Moving Ahead through Financial Empowerment” on July 9 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the V.I. Small Business Development Center on St. Thomas, and on July 10 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the V.I. Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Council Office on St. Croix. The curriculum provides tools to support victims of domestic abuse, focusing on financial and economic needs. A micro-loan program will also be launched. UVI hiring job coaches to help persons with disabilities

The V.I. University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities is looking for job coaches on St. Thomas and St. Croix to assist persons with disabilities in acquiring employment skills from July 22 through December 2019. Interested candidates must be available for flexible hours (10 hours maximum per week between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.) and have the ability to learn all aspects of the assigned work sites. There will be mandatory training in disability methodologies July 22 to 25. Candidates must complete and pass an Association of People Supporting Employment certification exam. UVI hosts cooperative agricultural presentation

The University of the Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension Service and the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program invite the community to attend a presentation, “Cooperatives in Action — A Reflection,” presented by Louis Petersen and Virgin Islands farmers on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the UVI Research and Extension Center, Room 133 on St. Croix. Topics will include an overview of the cooperative business model, experiences shared by successful agricultural cooperative business owners in Georgia, and more.
