ST. CROIX - Jockey Kerwin John had a day for the ages on Sunday, jockeying seven of the day's nine winning horses during the V.I.-Puerto Rico Friendship Day Races at Randall "Doc" James Racetrack.

In the 1-mile feature race though, Green Sand made his way back to the winner's circle to take home the day's largest purse in the Columbus Day races. Angel Viera rode Green Sand to a winning time of 1 minute and 37.2 seconds, followed by Blackjack Bob in second and Formerly Cat in third.

An afternoon full of racing got under way with a 4-furlong sprint won by High Times and jockey Christian Soto Jr. High Times ran a 49.4 to beat out Fifty Cents and Every Dollar Count, who finised second and third.

In the second race, Creation Rebel won his first race of the year, running a short 5-furlong in 1:02. John rode Creation to the win, edging Dinero and Gold Sizzler.

In the day's third race, YIMC Sword won in just his fourth race on St. Croix. With John as the jockey, Sword finished with a time of 1:00.2 in the 5-furlong run. Cherokee Neesh took second and Apron Dance finished third.

Kerwin John, right, rides Emerald Star to a win by a nose over Prince Crystal, ridden by Jesus Guadalupe in the sixth race.

Kerwin John continued his winning ways in the fourth race, riding Russian Way to a win in the 7Γ‚-furlong. Russian Way ran a 1:33 to beat Big Thunder Reflec and Wiseman's Choice.

In the fifth race, Big Kate pulled off the big win by running the 7Γ‚-long furlong in 1:32.3. With jockey Soto Jr,. Big Kate won his third straight fillies and mares race at James racetrack. Sarasota May Bell finished second and Destiny's Arrival took third.

Jockey John then won his fourth race of the day as he rode Emerald Star against Prince Crystal and War. The winning time in the 7Γ‚-furlong run was 1:36.1.

It was only fitting that John won his sixth race of the day atop Heats on Fire in the seventh race. Heats on Fire ran a 1:03.9 in the 1-mile run.

St. Thomas' Prayerful finished second and Black Machine made his St. Croix debut with a third-place finish.

John's final victory came in the day's last race. He rode Puertorican Emblem to 1:10.2 over 6 furlongs. Emblem beat out Littleboy Brew and Dixie Find.
