Plaskett East Little League registration

ST. CROIX - There will be registration for the Elmo Plaskett East Little League (children ages 5-15) on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at D.C. Canegata Ballpark. Parents must bring a copy of the child's birth certificate along with proof of residency (phone, cable or electic bill). Registration fee is $20 for parents with one child and $15 each for those with two or more children.

Wahoo Wind-up Fishing Tournament

The V.I. Game Fishing Club will have its annual Wahoo Wind-up Fishing Tournament, sponsored by Toyota of St. Thomas/St. Croix, on Sunday. The top prize for whoever catches the largest wahoo over 75 pounds will win a Toyota 4-wheel drive extended cab truck. There are over $30,000 in awards.

The angler who catches the largest wahoo of the tournament - but doesn't catch one big enough to win the truck - will still pocket $1,000. The anglers who catch the next nine largest wahoo will also win cash and prizes. The best boat, based on the most wahoo by count, wins a $1,000 prize.

Registration will take place on St. Croix from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday at Sharky's Bait Stand, and on St. Thomas from 6-9 p.m. on Friday at the V.I. Game Fishing Club in Red Hook. For more information, call 775-9144 on St. Thomas or 690-8252 on St. Croix.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk/Run

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Association of Road Runners will have its 12th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 2-Mile Walk/Run on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Port Of Sale Mall in Havensight.

Proceeds from this event benefit the St. Thomas-St. John unit of the American Cancer Society. Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers in seven age categories. Souvenirs will be given to all participants.

Registration can be done at The Caribbean Surf Company (Havensight Mall, Royal Dane Mall or Red Hook) and at the Antilles School Jackson Complex Wellness Center. Registration fees are $5 for youths 18 & under, $10 for adults and $8 for STAR members. For more information, call 775-6373. 

Zero Tolerance basketball league

ST. THOMAS - Anyone interested in entering a team in the Zero Tolerance 9-12 Drug Free Interneighborhood Basketball League should contact Boysie Todman at 626-4420 or 777-1229.

VITA Junior Tennis Tournament

ST. JOHN - The St. John Racquet Club will have a V.I. Tennis Association Junior Tennis Tournament, sponsored by HOVENSA and in honor of Sis Frank, on Nov. 6-8 at the Cruz Bay tennis courts. The event is for boys and girls ages 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18. Entry fee is $15. For more information, call Patrice Harley at 776-6643.

Scholastic chess tournament

ST. THOMAS - The V.I. Learning Institute will sponsor a Scholastic Chess Tournament for students of all ages on Nov. 7 at Lockhart Elementary School. The first of four rounds will begin at 8:45 p.m., and registration will start at 8 a.m. All students who attend both public and private schools in the territory are invited.

Caribbean Classic Triathlon to add sprint distance race 

ST. CROIX - The Caribbean Classic Triathlon is adding a Sprint Distance race to the Nov. 8 event. 

The CCT is an Olympic Distance race, which includes a 1-mile swim, 25-mile bike and 6.2-mile run. It is based at the Buccaneer Hotel.

In order to offer more athletes the opportunity to participate, a shorter Sprint Distance will be run concurrently with the longer race.  The Sprint race will include a half-mile swim, 17-mile bike and 3.1-mile run. Both races will start at 7 a.m.
