CAHS sweeps girls, boys varsity cross country races

ST. THOMAS - Charlotte Amalie High School on Tuesday continued its dominance of the varsity cross country season with wins in both the boys and girls divisions.
Janella John won the girls varsity race in 24 minutes and 43 seconds, winning by nearly a minute in the three-mile run.
Kali Bunn of Antilles School finished second in 25:38 and Tiana Jeremy of CAHS came in third in 27:52. The next three finishers were Tamiell Griffith, Charon Brown and Leslie Nessbitt, all of CAHS.
Jeriel Jerome of CAHS won the boys three-mile race in 18:51. Cecio Bonelli of CAHS came in second in 19:04 and Rohit Gaikwad of All Saints School finished third in 19:08. The next varsity boys finisher was Shaquille Edward of CAHS.
The Chickenhawks have dominated this season, with John running undefeated in the girls races and the top boys runners trading wins.
Chickenhawks coach Bruce Smith said his team has started weight and plyometric training to supplement their running.
"We've also extended the runs to really get them fit for this year," Smith said.
Keshema Fleming of Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School won the girls junior varsity two-mile race in 14:13. Ariel Tolz of Montessori came in second in 15:29 and Shirvel Luke came in third 17:06. They were followed by Sheniqua Maynard, Corrina Richards and Shanice Laurent.
Ateniah Roacher of BCB won the boys junior varsity race in 13:12. Malik Todman of CAHS came in second in 13:37 and Lukata Samuel of Montessori came in third in 13:38. Toren Thomas, Sahakari Francis and Sharmol Paul filled out the top six.
Evan Jones of St. John's Gifft Hill School won his fourth straight elementary race, going one mile in 6:08. Randy Antoine of Gomez Elementary came in second in 6:12 and Alrick Lettsome of Lockhart came in third in 6:43. Leesimba Leinhardt of Gomez, Kamoi Lake of Gladys Abraham and Atemazen Nzekeny Brihurt of Lockhart rounded out the top six.
