Lady Tigers force third game in varsity volleyball title series
Daily News Staff

ST. CROIX - The Country Day varsity girls volleyball team sent the best-of-3 championship series to a third and final game after a straight set win over Central High School, 25-16, 26-24, 25-22, on Monday.

Country Day's Hanifah Hendricks lead her team with 10 kills. Kiaya Galbreath finished with eight kills, Samantha Smith had seven kills and Coral Hamilton had five aces and three blocks.

"They communicated, they served to open holes in the court," Country Day head coach Andy Dunton said.

Dunton said his team talked more on the court during Monday's game after losing Friday. Dunton also said they got lucky because Central was missing one of their key players - Khrysta Peter. But it evened out because he was without two of his key players during the first match of the series last Friday.

"Hopefully we'll get everyone at the last game, and it's gonna be a good game between these two teams," Dunton said. "Both teams have a lot of seniors and both teams want to win it."

Central High assistant coach Edwin SanKitts said his team did not adjust without Peter.

"They played awful today. Everyone made mistakes," SanKitts said.

A date for the third and final game has not been set, but officials believe it will take place next week.
