ST. THOMAS - The Oklahoma Sooners won by nearly as many points as they allowed on Friday in an 87-48 blowout of the San Diego State Aztecs. The win was Oklahoma's largest margin of victory over a ranked team in school history.
The win sends No. 16 Oklahoma into a matchup this afternoon against No. 5 Notre Dame for the Island Division championship.
Not all was great however in No. 16 Oklahoma's win over No. 23 S.D. State. Sophomore guard Whitney Hand, last year's Big 12 Freshman of the Year, went down hard with a knee injury right before the half. Her return is not only questionable for the tournament, but also for the season.
It was a dominating performance for the Sooners as five players were in double figures. In the first half alone, Oklahoma scored more points than the Aztecs even allowed in three different games.
The defense was just as impressive, holding the Aztecs to just 28.6 percent shooting from the field and 2-of-16 from 3-point range.

Oklahoma's Amanda Thompson had a game-high 18 points to go with nine rebounds and three steals. Abi Olajuwon, daughter of Basketball Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon, and Nyeshia Stevenson added 14 points each in Oklahoma's biggest win of the regular season.
San Diego State's Paris Johnson was the lone Aztec to hit double figures with 10 points to go with six boards.
The Sooners defense was a brick wall in the first half, allowing just 15 first-half points. The Aztecs made just five field goals out of 27 shots.
The Aztecs were outrebounded, 25-11, and outscored in the paint, 22-8. Oklahoma ran up a 32-point lead thanks to 59.4 percent shooting from the field and scoring 22 points off 13 turnovers.
A field goal by Jen้ Morris with 9:57 left in the first half was the last one the Aztecs would get until two minutes into the second half.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma had two players in double-digits and a third - Danielle Robinson - with nine points in the opening period.
The Sooners' Amanda Thompson had 14 points and seven rebounds to help Oklahoma jump out to a 47-15 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Aztecs looked like they were a beginning a comeback the same way they they did against Notre Dame on Thursday, with a 10-2 run. But Oklahoma would have none of it.
After the teams exchanged baskets, the Sooners busted out a 10-3 run that brought their lead to its biggest of the night at 63-30. Although the Aztecs matched their first-half point total just seven minutes into the second half, Oklahoma never let its foot off the gas pedal and cruised to as much as a 44-point lead.
Morris was pulled just two points shy of her 1,000th career point scored for San Diego State. She played 25 minutes in the game, but just seven of those came in the second half as she finished with eight points and shot 4-of-11 from the field, 0-for-5 from long range.
Robinson finished with 13 points and seven assists for Oklahoma. Whitney Hand had 10 points and Carlee Roethlisberger, sister of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, had nine points and shot 2-of-3 from long range.
San Diego State's Coco Davis had four of her team's eight assists to go with five boards and three points.
