The 13th Annual Water Island Music Festival is on, hosted this year by The Forum on St. Thomas.

The Forum puts on stage the beautiful artistry and masterful skills of piano virtuoso Julian Gargiulo (on the cover) and pianist Maria Yefimova, soprano Roza Bulat and the special participation by local soprano sensation Laura Strickling. You’ll also witness the award-winning performance of Nathan Meltzer, the winning violinist of the “Getting to Carnegie” Competition. It’s a one night only breathtaking musical affair.

“We had contemplated cancelling the festival since Hurricane Irma washed away all of the chairs we usually use,” said Alex Randall, the festival organizer, who every year hosts the festival at his Water Island home. “But Julian was so insistent, ‘The show must go on,’ that I relented and made plans. We are very fortunate that Neil Prior and The Forum allowed us to fit into their schedule and hold the festival in the Prior-Jolleck Hall of Antilles School.”

This year’s event is a special fundraiser to benefit local charities, particularly those involved in hurricane recovery efforts. There are several ways you, too, can help. Participate in a silent auction and win great prizes. At the end of the concert, there will be a traditional hat collection accompanied by a world-class performance from one of the artists. When you give to the hat, you’ll be helping local charities and Virgin Islanders affected by the recent hurricanes.

Hosted by The Forum at Prior-Jollek Hall, the festival will take place on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25; teachers $10; and students free. They are on sale at the Medicine Shoppe (Havensight), Frenchtown Deli, Chelsea Drugstore (Red Hook) and Antilles School Administration Office. Or visit www.InstantSeats.com. Small meals, wine, water, tapas and dessert from Amalia Café will be served starting one hour before and during intermission at the event.
