World AIDS Day
Today is World AIDS Day, an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV and show support for people living with HIV and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. The Health Department’s Division of Immunization and the Frederiksted Health Center on St. Croix will host events. On St. Croix, join a memorial march and vigil from 5:30 to 6 p.m., from the Frederiksted post office to the fish market. At 6 p.m., enjoy a performance of “Life in the Time of HIV” at the Dorsch Center, across from Turtles Deli. At 7 p.m., enjoy networking and refreshments. On St. Thomas, the Health Department will host an HIV/AIDS Awareness Health Fair at the Old Municipal Hospital.

Christmas on DeCastro Street
Christmas on DeCastro Street will take place today and Saturday on Tortola and will benefit the Eslyn Henley Richiez Learning Center, which was destroyed in the hurricanes, and the purchase of instruments for the Elmore Stoutt High School band, which also lost everything in the storms. Opening activities are at 5:30 p.m. today and will include Christmas storytelling with Elmore Stoutt. Vendors will display their goods from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. today. Saturday’s events start with a breakfast at 7 a.m., with festivities until 10:30 p.m. Enjoy music, food and crafts.
The University of the Virgin Islands presents a seasonal Christmas concert on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Prior-Jolleck Hall at Antilles School on St. Thomas. Tickets are $10 adults and $5 students. Tickets are available the night of the concert at the hall’s box office. The concert will feature the UVI Jazz Band, directed by Dion G. Parson, the UVI Concert Band, directed by Jeannette A. Rhymer, the UVI Steelpan Ensemble directed by Shenelle Warner and the UVI Concert Ensemble, directed by Georgia Francis and guest conductor Dionne Donadelle.
Fish with a vet tournament
Active servicemen and veterans have the chance to fish and then enjoy a beach barbecue, dancing, live music, raffle prizes and more on Sunday. All funds raised support the tournament, Wounded Warrior Project, Mission 22, and Hero Dogs. A weigh-in, barbecue, awards ceremony and a beach party will follow.
