On Sunday, Family Resource Center was happy to be the beneficiary of the second annual Lasagna Extravaganza at Abi Beach on St. Thomas.

Seven chefs competed for bragging rights over who could make the best meat, veggie, or seafood lasagna. Brad Robbins, organizer of the event, had previously hosted the cook-off as a private competition between friends before expanding to include the public and raise money for FRC.

BOOM Cucina Restaurant placed No. 1 in the seafood category. Robbins had the No. 1 veggie lasagna, and Dave “Super Dave” McDermott had the best meat lasagna.

The Lasagna Extravaganza was well attended, with several hundred people and pets enjoying food, drinks and live music all afternoon.

The event begins an aggressive fundraising campaign for the agency that finds itself at a loss after dwindling grant funding.

Family Resource Center has launched its annual Ask Campaign via a crowd-funding platform called Generosity (by Indiegogo). The campaign can be found and shared online at: https://igg.me/at/DfGYkseHXhA.

FRC aims to raise $50,000 in 90 days to help meet its current budget shortfall. Donations will help victims of crime find solace and shelter. During the 90-day campaign, there will be several additional fundraisers on St. Thomas, including a brunch at SOS Restaurant, a Champagne and Shopping Sale, the Texas Society Chili Cook-Off on Aug. 20 at Brewers Bay beach, a Jeep Scavenger Hunt on Oct. 15, and the October Sunday Beach Jam.
