The Human Services Department Head Start Program Invites Parents to the 2017 Parent Orientation Expo!

The Human Services Department will hold its annual Parent Orientation Expo in the St. Thomas/St. John District Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 at Head Start Sugar Estate Complex on 1st Avenue on St. Thomas and at the Department of Human Services Building, Cruz Bay.

The event will be conducted in three languages: Spanish, Creole and English. The community is encouraged to participate, especially if you have a child entering the program.

“There are many benefits that parents and guardians will take from this event,” Commissioner Felecia L. Blyden said. “The mere fact it will be administered in the parents’ and guardians’ primary language will help convey pertinent information to them.”

Meet the Head Start management team, support and center staff, learn about your rights and responsibilities, receive information on the program’s rules, policies and procedures, learn the importance of school readiness and what you as a parent can do to help improve your child’s success. Also, parents and guardians may receive the enrollment letters that are required to be presented on the first day of school.

“Parent Orientation Expo provides a convenient and unique opportunity for parents and guardians to come out and learn what the Head Start program is all about,” Blyden said. “You will learn about special opportunities and trainings offered by our program, meet our community partners and get a deeper understanding of our program. These are very important topics that parents and guardians need to know. I welcome all to contact our department and ask about the 2017 Parent Orientation Expo to get more information.”
