As more and more flights return to the territory, St. John hotels report that July’s occupancy is looking better than June, though the absence of St. John Festival coupled with coronavirus fears is keeping occupancy rates far below normal. Cruz Bay Boutique Hotel, which is typically sold out over the July 4 holiday, is reporting only 10 percent occupancy this month and a projected 40 percent occupancy in July.

“We’re almost empty that first week of July, whereas normally we’d be completely sold out the first week of the month at high season rates,” said Cruz Bay Boutique Hotel owner David Guidi. “Not having St. John Festival is a major killer for July.”
