St. Croix’s 30 Under 30 to be honored Sunday

The 30 Under 30 Millenials on the Move awards ceremony will be held Sunday at Company Street Hotel in Christiansted from 3 to 6 p.m. The event honors 30 of St. Croix’s most influential young people in a variety of fields, including Shanya Hanley, media consultant and operations administrator for The Virgin Islands Daily News and owner of J’ouvert Junction.

Food Authority applications available

Applications are now available for the St. Croix District School Food Authority’s 2019 Summer Employment Program. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the program ensures that children of the Virgin Islands continue to have access to nutritious meals when school is not in session, providing meals that meet federal nutrition guidelines.

Applications are available at the School Food Authority’s main office located at 8D Estate Cottage. The application deadline is Friday. For more information, call 340-773-1095.

St. Thomas McDonald’s hosting pet food drive

With the upcoming movie launch of “Secret Life of Pets 2,” McDonald’s restaurants on St. Thomas will hold a food drive for pets Friday through Sunday. They will accept dry and canned foods for cats and dogs to donate to the Humane Society of St. Thomas. Food collection bins will be available in each St. Thomas restaurant.

Lymphedema symposium set for Monday at noon

Synergy Fitness and Wellness Center on St. Thomas will host a free lymphedema symposium on Monday from noon to 5 p.m. Senior product specialist for Tactile Medical in Miami will talk about different types of lymphedema pumps.

Bonnie O’Rourke-Barr, a certified lymphedema therapist offering lymphatic treatment at Synergy Fitness and Wellness Center in Red Hook and Donna Phillips, a certified fitter for compression garments, also will make presentations. Phillips works at the Schneider Hospital and will discuss the types of garments available for lymphedema and venous insufficiency. Call 340-714-2348 for details.
