The free event is in support of the ninth-annual Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge, which challenges students in grades K-6 to read five or more books during the summer. The challenge began on June 12 and will conclude on Sept. 22. Students will enjoy storytelling, story writing, arts and crafts and more. There will also be workshops and activities for parents. Cat food drive set for Saturday at Cost U Less: The Lucky Paws Foundation, SNIP (Spay/Neuter Island Pets) and the Cat Café Program will hold a cat food drive from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in front of Cost U Less on St. Thomas. Committee seeks themes for V.I. Carnival 2018: The Virgin Islands Carnival Committee invites the public to submit theme entries for the 66th edition of the Virgin Islands Carnival. Participants should keep their submissions short, catchy, meaningful, and relevant to the celebrations. The theme should reflect the exuberance of the festivities and be able to be used throughout the season.
Submissions should be mailed to P.O. Box 307947, St. Thomas, V.I. 00803 or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline is Sept. 30. Each submission should include the participant’s name and contact information.
The winner will receive a Carnival 2018 season pass to all V.I. Carnival Committee-sponsored events. The winning theme will be used at all Carnival events and will be posted, along with the winner’s name, in the Carnival Booklet.
