The celebration of the Presentation of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple 40 days after his birth consists of a collection of lessons, for the most part suggested in the ceremonial codes of the Mosaic Law, especially in the Book of Leviticus, and alluded to in Luke. They include:

We rejoice at the safe arrival of a child, and especially as this was Mary’s first, by the Holy Spirit. The lesson: Every child is important, including those who were conceived and even born out of wedlock. The circumstances of a child’s birth need not be determinative of a child’s limitless potential.
