Karlisa Alisia Callwood earns PhD in marine biology

Karlisa Alicia Callwood of St. Thomas has received her PhD in the area of atmospherical marine biology from the University of Miami. She is the daughter of Peggy Rhymer-Mott and granddaughter of Sybil A. Rhymer. Caretaker is Lucille Richardson-Connor. Callwood began her education at Kirwan Terrace Elementary School, now known as Gladys A. Abraham Elementary School. The Rhymer and Callwood families offer a heartfelt thank you to the faculty, staff and custodial workers who touched Karlisa’s young life, thus preparing her for the arduous task of attaining her PhD.

to present survey results

The Education Department, State Office of Special Education, invites the community to presentations of the eighth annual Parental Satisfaction Survey results. A presentation will be held on St. Croix on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the University of the Virgin Islands North West Wing, Rooms 102 and 103. The St. Thomas-St. John results will be presented on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Room 142 of UVI’s Administration and Conference Center.

CAHS announces schedule to receive student IDs

Charlotte Amalie High School announces its student ID schedule: Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. for last names A-F and 12:30 p.m. for last names G-M; Thursday at 8:30 a.m. for last names N-S and 12:30 p.m. for last names T-Z; and Friday at 8:30 a.m. for all new 10th-, 11th- and 12th-graders and all other students that need to purchase a school ID. During the designated times, students are asked to present their immunization records and pay required school fees, including $15 for photo ID, $18 for school accident insurance and $10 for PTSA dues. Joseph A. Gomez Elementary School announces mandatory orientation sessions for the 2017-18 school year that will be held in the school’s cafeteria. The orientation schedule is as follows: Aug. 24 from 9 to 11 a.m. for grades 1 and 2 and noon to 2 p.m. for grades 3 and 4; and Aug. 25 from 9 to 11 a.m. for grades 5 and 6 and noon to 2 p.m. for all kindergartners and new incoming students.
