Safiya George Dalmida, PhD, has been named the next dean of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University.
Dalmida is a University of the Virgin Islands alumn, receiving her associate’s degree in 1997 and her bachelor’s degree in 1999. She obtained her PhD in nursing and certificates in women’s studies and teaching from Emory University, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in research on religion and health from Duke University in Durham, N.C.
At the University of Alabama, Dalmida was an assistant professor and the assistant dean for research at the Capstone College of Nursing, where she also served as chair of the Scholarly Affairs Committee, member of the Executive Council and a board member and secretary of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing. She has received national recognition for both her research and her commitment to service. Dalmida will take over as dean this summer.
