More than two months after the territory closed its doors to visitors, tourists began trickling back June 1, limited by a reduced number of flights arriving on St. Thomas daily. Vacation rental owners and managers report a vast array of circumstances from fully booked calendars to sparse bookings, but the one thing those who interact with visitors seem to agree on is the rate which tourists are adhering to social distancing guidelines.
“With our guests it’s been 50/50,” said St. John Inn General Manager Hilary Zimmerman. “Some wear masks, some don’t. We generally serve breakfast to our guests but we’re not doing that right now because we don’t want people congregating.”
