Children’s Book Fest
The third annual Children’s Book and Film Fest will take place on Fridays, through Aug. 18, at Buddhoe Park in Frederiksted, St. Croix. Movies start at 7 p.m. Tonight will feature Lemony Snicket’s “A Series of Unfortunate Events”; and Aug. 18, “Journey to the Center of the Earth.” Seating is limited. Bring a chair or blanket. The third annual Back 2 School Fun Day will take place on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at St. George Village Botanical Garden in Frederiksted, St. Croix. There will be 500 backpacks filled with school supplies, the “Teacher of the Year” award, DJs, a bounce house, a K-9 Unit, firetruck and EMS display. Raffle tickets will be for sale for a variety of prizes. Admission is $5 adults, $2 for high school students and free for children 12 and under.
Code Like a Girl
All Saints Cathedral School and the National Center for Women in Information and Technology invite the public to attend the “Code Like a Girl!” forum on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in the Chase Auditorium at the University of the Virgin Islands on St. Thomas. The forum will provide a panel discussion on women in information technology and computer science fields in the U.S. Virgin Islands as well as highlight the projects of young Virgin Islanders attending the Code Like a Girl! Camp at All Saints Cathedral School.
AARP film screening
AARP Virgin Islands announces the launch of AARP Movie for Grownups in the Virgin Islands and invites AARP members to a free screening of “The Hitman’s Bodyguard.” The screenings will be held on Aug. 18 on St. Thomas/St. John and on Aug. 19 on St. Croix at 2 p.m. at the Caribbean Cinemas in Donoe and Diamond, respectively.

The Virgin Islands Carnival Committee invites the public to submit theme entries for the 66th edition of the Virgin Islands Carnival. Participants should keep their submissions short, catchy, meaningful, and relevant to the celebrations.
The theme should reflect the exuberance of the festivities and be able to be used throughout the season.
