The V.I. Justice Department recently announced that Menelik Petersen had pleaded guilty to the 2015 murder of Terrance Moorhead on St. Croix, but Petersen’s new attorney said Wednesday she is working to have that plea withdrawn and filed an emergency motion to stay proceedings to investigate the “unusual circumstances” of the case.

“What we hope to see happen is that the request for a stay is granted and the court doesn’t move forward with sentencing until it resolves the motion to withdraw the guilty plea,” said attorney Kye Walker, who was recently retained by Petersen and was not involved in the plea agreement Petersen entered into.
