The local government’s chief law enforcement officer said Wednesday that the Justice Department’s efforts to keep tabs on sex offender Jeffrey Epstein over the last 20 years were complicated by his extreme wealth.

“Monitoring a sex offender with his own private islands and the resources to fly victims in and out on private planes and helicopters presented unique challenges,” according to a civil lawsuit filed Wednesday by V.I. Attorney General Denise George.
