ST. THOMAS — The public defender for boxer John Jackson has asked a federal judge to delay his criminal trial, which is scheduled to begin in three weeks.

Jackson, 30, had been set to go to trial on federal rape and child pornography charges on July 22, but Magistrate Judge Ruth Miller ordered that date pushed back to Oct. 28 after Jackson’s attorney withdrew from the case because Jackson hasn’t been able to pay him.
