The U.S. Coast Guard is warning boaters to expect extra traffic today.

With the Fourth of July holiday weekend approaching, the U.S. Coast Guard is reminding boaters to stay safe in the heavily trafficked waterways near the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

A news release distributed Wednesday by the Coast Guard calls on the public to “heed all existing slow speed or no wake areas due to increased vessel traffic” anticipated over the weekend. The increased traffic and boats traveling at excessive speeds can result in deaths and serious injuries, the Coast Guard said.
