The Federal Communications Commission will decide this month on whether to deploy nearly $1 billion in funding to improve, expand and harden broadband networks in both the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

On Wednesday, FCC officials said during a media conference call that the commission will vote on Sept. 26 to allocate $950 million to both territories — about $190 million to the Virgin Islands and about $758 million to Puerto Rico.
