Cocaine trafficker Gerald Mercer is fighting to have his nearly 16-year prison sentence overturned, but federal prosecutors say he deserves to remain behind bars

A former Department of Planning and Natural Resources peace officer, Mercer worked nights as a cashier at Gasworks and sold cars on the weekends through his business, Triple J Automotive on St. Thomas, while also secretly working to build a cocaine trafficking operation.
