ST. CROIX — Friends and family of Kemit-Amon Lewis, a dancer and a marine scientist at the University of the Virgin Islands, have launched a fundraising campaign to help with medical costs as he recovers from a quadruple amputation.

The St. Croix native, 36, was hospitalized at Luis Hospital for a bacterial infection that compromised his vital organs, which lead to the amputation of both of his hands and both of his feet at a Florida hospital where he was flown to for additional care.
