From sea to shining sea

A sacrifice not forgotten

Aviation Maintenance Administration 2nd Class Emerald McNeal of St. Thomas, right, and Aviation Electronics Technician 2nd Class Kaylee Olson of California stand ready to render honors toward the resting place of Navy aircrewmen lost during World War II off Palau. The women are assigned to the Wildcards of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 23, aboard the littoral combat ship USS Jackson. The Jackson is currently deployed as part of a ready-response force in the Pacific Ocean, according to the U.S. Navy. Palau was a territory of Spain and later Germany until being annexed by Japan during World War I and the United States during World War II. It would remain a U.S. territory until it opted for independence in 1982 and later signed a compact of free association with the United States.
