Builders Emporium

The owner of a St. Thomas building is attempting to evict the V.I. government, which reportedly owes nearly $153,000 in unpaid rent.

ST. THOMAS — The Lieutenant Governor’s Office reportedly owes tens of thousands of dollars in late rent for its use of an Estate Thomas property. The landlord, after a failed attempt to collect the arrears in court last month, is now filing suit again.

According to V.I. Superior Court documents, landlord Joe Vanterpool, of St. Thomas-based Vanterpool Enterprises, refiled a suit against the V.I. government on July 8, claiming the Lieutenant Governor’s Office, which occupies space at the Builders Emporium office behind Schneider Hospital, is delinquent on rent — and has been for the past 12 years.
