ST. THOMAS — A man is dead following a shooting Thursday night on Coki Point.

The 911 Emergency Call Center received reports of shots fired in the neighborhood at 8:57 p.m., according to V.I. Police Department spokesman Glen Dratte.

Upon arrival, officers found a man who had succumbed to his injuries, Dratte said.

At press time, police were still on the scene, and Dratte could not provide specifics about the circumstances of the shooting as officers were still “trying to unravel” the crime.

While police believe they know the victim’s identity, they were still awaiting confirmation from next of kin Thursday night, Dratte said.

The slaying was the territory’s 16th homicide of the year and the ninth on St. Thomas, including one vehicular homicide. There have been seven homicides so far this year on St. Croix, according to Daily News records.

Anyone with any information regarding the homicide is urged to contact 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 or Crime Stoppers V.I at 1-800-222 8477.
