A St. Croix man facing a five-year federal prison sentence for importing illegal firearms was rearrested Monday after repeatedly violating the conditions of his pre-trial release, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court.

William Payne was originally arrested on May 17, 2017, after officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspected a pallet of boxes in the Tropical Shipping warehouse in Christiansted and found a box containing a Kel-Tec PLR-16 pistol that the sender had attempted to conceal among tools, according to an affidavit.
