The V.I. Police Department is failing to communicate important public safety information to the community and has not responded to questions about recent crimes, including the killing of a 9-year-old boy on St. Croix.

While the Education Department issued a statement Wednesday identifying the slain child as Cristino Gonzalez, a student at Alfredo Andrews Elementary School, police did not respond to multiple attempts to confirm the child’s name or get more information about the killing.
