Residents clean up downtown Charlotte Amalie

Army Staff Sgt. Contavious Miles helps organize more than 150 volunteers as they prepare to pick trash off the downtown Charlotte Amalie foreshore Saturday morning. Young people from all branches of JROTC service as well as from private and public schools and the Boy Scouts pitched in. “It’s about changing hearts and minds,” Miles said. “The trash gets tossed here and then guess what happens: it gets into the water, the marine life, the coral, and who wants to be in polluted water? At the end of the day, we’re a tourist destination.”
