ST. THOMAS — Virgin Islands lawmakers are poised to greenlight the construction of a 32-room, upscale boutique hotel in Estate Bakkeroe, St. Thomas, a development that could be the first hotel built in the territory in more than 25 years.

Bakkeroe homeowners, however, who already contend with the nearby Marriott’s Frenchman’s Cove, say the project would be an added intrusion to their residential area, and bring unwanted traffic, noise and potentially crime to their doorsteps.
