ST. THOMAS — Power outages are taking a less-than-subtle toll on yet another beloved experience of the Virgin Islands: Dining out.

According to a number of local restaurateurs, the rash of blackouts in the St. Thomas-St. John District, coupled with the territory’s sky-high utility bills, are dealing a heavy blow to restaurant operations — damaging equipment, reducing morale, lowering revenue and, in some cases, passing on costs to customers.
