ST. THOMAS — V.I. lawmakers hosted a commemoration Friday of the “Year of Return, Ghana 2019” on St. Thomas, marking 400 years since the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in Jamestown, Va. — and the resilience of those displaced and scattered by the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.

The event, hosted at the Legislature by the Senate Committee on Culture, Historic Preservation and Aging, as well as the Office of the Senate President, is part of the observance of Virgin Islands Emancipation and Freedom Week.
