A St. Croix man was charged with kidnapping and assault Thursday after he attacked a woman and held her against her will, according to the probable cause fact sheet filed by police.
Cleus Perpie was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, first-degree unlawful sexual contact, false imprisonment and kidnapping, simple assault and battery, and harassment by telephone. He was charged under the territory’s domestic violence statute and held without bail until his advice-of-rights hearing Friday.
The victim reported the assault Wednesday, and said Perpie had taken her in a vehicle to a secluded beach area in Christiansted and held her in a headlock so she couldn’t jump out of the car, according to the fact sheet.
He physically and sexually assaulted her before eventually driving her home, the victim told police.
Police interviewed Perpie, who “admitted to touching the victim’s breast and sending the victim threatening text messages via cellphone,” according to the fact sheet.
He appeared in court via videoconference Friday where Magistrate Judge Ernest Morris Jr. ordered him released to a third-party custodian after posting an unsecured $50,000 bond.
