Former V.I. Senator Wayne James will serve the remainder of his 30-month federal prison sentence for taking nearly $89,000 in public funds, after an appellate court declined his request for a new trial.

The ruling came Thursday in an opinion filed by three judges on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, who disagreed with James’ arguments that U.S. District Court Judge Curtis Gomez had unfairly conducted his trial on charges of wire fraud and federal program embezzlement.
