V.I. Police said Friday they’re working to implement cutting-edge surveillance technology, including facial recognition cameras and drones — but also admitted the department already has other pieces of technology that have never been used.
Officers are currently receiving drone pilot training in New Mexico, according to V.I. Police Deputy Commissioner Celvin Walwyn, and by August, surveillance cameras are going to be installed at undisclosed locations throughout the territory that have “FRTs, facial recognition technology, and they can identify a person through these cameras by going through a database, and they can track you around the place. So, we have that.”
