A customer’s V.I. Water and Power Authority bill shows a “LEASED GEN SURCHARGE.” The new line item is to pay for units from APR Energy and Aggreko, according to WAPA spokesman Jean Greaux Jr.

A surcharge that recently started appearing on the V.I. Water and Power Authority’s customer bills allows the authority to cover the cost of “smaller, more efficient rental generators.”

WAPA spokesman Jean Greaux Jr. said in a news release Thursday that the generators, courtesy of vendors APR Energy and Aggreko, are now operational at the authority’s plants on both St. Croix and St. Thomas.
