Sybil Leona Van Gurp of Estate Humbug, Christiansted, St. Croix, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2019, in Tampa, Fla., surrounded by her loving family. Sybil was 88 years.
Sybil was born in Curacao (Netherland Antilles) on Nov. 12, 1930, to Josefa Constantia Riley and Robert Henry Paulus Lambert. She lived in Curacao throughout her young life, then moved to Aruba in 1958. In 1968, she relocated to St. Croix, USVI, with her family.
Sybil was preceded in death by her mother, Josefa (Mamai) Constantia Riley; father, Robert Henry Paulus Lambert; brothers, Ricardo Riley, Paulus Riley; and sister, Mavis (Patsy) Riley.
She is survived by her husband, David Van Gurp; daughter, Margret (Margie) Van Gurp; sons, Jerome Van Gurp, Alberto Van Gurp, Henry Van Gurp; daughters-in-law, America Van Gurp and Lisah Vanburen Van Gurp; her brother, Edmundo Riley; sisters, Marlene (Malienchi) Riley, Celeste Riley and Ettera Riley; nine grandchildren, Jaime and husband Josue Parrilla, Delicia Van Gurp, Dr. Alberto (Ali) Van Gurp Jr., Carlos Van Gurp, Daniel Coleman, Courtney Coleman, Myles Marshall, Monikah Marshall, Kenya Marshall; two great-grandchildren, Ja’melia Parrilla and Brianna Marshall; loving nieces and nephews; her church brothers and sisters; and other family and friends too numerous to mention.
A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, July 2, at citylifechurch, 8411 North Dale Mabry, Tampa, Fla. 33614. (813-933-3991). Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. with the service following thereafter. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Gardens at 12609 Memorial Drive, Trinity, Fla. 34655.
