Editor’s Note: This is the last of a four-part series about the St. Croix Hiking Association’s recent trip to the Blue Mountain Wilderness Retreat, a rural area of Jamaica. Part 3 was published on Saturday, July 27; Part 2 on Wednesday, July 24; and Part 1 on Saturday, July 20.

Before we started out on the most challenging hike our Jamaican host Robert Kerr had arranged for us, we picked up Paperfoot, a big, strapping Jamaican man ready to guide us on the Cockpit Country Crossing trail. A few yards away, we met our second tour guide Paul, with his sharp cutlass.
