The standing room-only turnout for the League of Women Voters’ program on political status on a recent Saturday morning provided strong evidence of the public’s interest in the matter of self determination for the USVI. An additional audience (about 1,800) viewed the program online and submitted 124 questions/comments throughout the live-streaming program on WTJX.

Speakers Lt. Gov. Tregenza Roach and Dr. Malik Sekou, project director of a recently completed grant from the Department of the Interior, Quest for a Territorial Constitution, shared their ideas and fielded questions during the lively discussion period. Although planned as a two-hour program, the discussion continued in the adjoining parking lot after the formal program ended and the facility closed, further evidence of the public’s strong interest in meaningful dialogue on the topic.
