One of the cornerstones of the Montessori education is peace. The students are not only taught to be peaceful with each other, but also to make peace a priority. In all ways they are told to find ways to build a functioning community where everyone belongs and no one is above anyone else.
That concept of equality is a big thing. On the one hand, there is the understanding that with age comes more responsibility, so you also get more freedoms and rewards. In the big picture, however, there is a need for everyone to either be treated equally, or for everyone have an equal chance at opportunities. One of the lessons used to teach the relationship between peace and equality is OxFam Day.
