During a recent class circle discussion the question was asked of my students: What are some of your family holiday traditions? It was a cute way to spend some time between scheduled activities. It was also a way to get the subject out in the open so they would spend less time talking about it and more time doing their work.

Not too surprisingly, it started off with stories that fit into a few recurring themes. The most popular one was the scenario where the student wakes up way too early and insists that everyone else get up. There is a present melee and then some sort of meal. Minus the early riser, since we have a teenager now, that pretty much mirrors my family’s tradition.
