The V.I. government is showing forward thinking in the proposed closing of smaller schools, and consolidating them into better, bigger facilities. While it’s true that two Category 5 hurricanes helped propel these new actions, they were long overdue.

For decades, numerous small elementary schools have existed in the community. And while the intimate nature of these tiny schools was comforting, services were limited. With children numbering under a few hundred in several of these schools, it was not cost-effective to provide much-needed services for these students.
