A pair of Antilles School graduates and former members of the Hurricanes’ national championship winning sailing team were named to the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association’s sailors of the week.
St. Thomas natives and siblings Mia and Teddy Nicolosi, both members of Yale University’s sailing team, were the award recipients for the opening week of the NEISA sailing season, which began Sept. 11.
Mia Nicolosi, a freshman, was named the NEISA women’s sailors of the week along with crewmate Ximena Escobar, while Teddy Nicolosi, a sophomore, was named the NEISA co-ed sailors of the week along with crewmate Anish Arcot.
Mia Nicolosi and Escobar, also a freshman, led the “B” division at the Toni Deutsch ’58 Regatta on the Charles River in Cambridge, Mass. The duo won three of 14 races and had eight more top-five finishes (including five second places) in the division, and helped the Bulldogs finish third overall behind host-team Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Brown University.
Teddy Nicolosi and Arcot, a junior, also turned in a strong performance in the “B” division at the Harry Anderson Jr. Trophy regatta in Branford, Conn. The duo led the division by winning four races and finishing no worse than sixth in their remaining starts as Yale took the overall title over Brown and Harvard University’s No. 1 team.
