Basketball is a family affair for St. Thomas native K’shouri Hodge, and a mother’s love helped propel the 5-foot, 11-inch wing to an NCAA Division II level program, as she has signed with Georgia Southwestern State University, based in Americus, Ga.

“I was always looking for more than basketball,” said Hodge, who moved from the island at age 1 with her mother, Gwenette Dowe. “Chemistry of the team and a family-oriented atmosphere was big on my list. I grew up with it so I was expecting it. I visited other schools and loved the chemistry on most teams, but still it was missing the other big factor which is the family atmosphere. At GSW, I felt like I was at home with my family and my mother really loved it. She wanted to go to the school more than I did, like she was ready to enroll.
