Invitations have been sent out to prospective teams to enter the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational high school basketball tournament, which will be held Jan. 17-20.

All of the tournament’s games — both varsity boys and varsity girls divisions — will be played at Ivanna Eudora Kean High School’s Digna Wheatley Gymnasium.

Youth chess tourney set for Charlotte Amalie High

ST. THOMAS — The first youth chess tournament of the 2018-2019 school year will be held Saturday at Charlotte Amalie High School on St. Thomas.

The four-round tournament will award prizes to the top three finishers in three age-group divisions: age 9-under, age 12-under and age 13-over. Each round is expected to last no more than an hour.

Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. at Charlotte Amalie High, with the first match beginning at 8 a.m.

There is no entry fee to play in the tournament, and lunch will be on sale. For more information, call 340-514-7054.

St. Croix Futsal league signups set for Saturday

ST. CROIX — The St. Croix youth and adult futsal leagues will resume play next month after a one-year break due to the damage from hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Registration and a kickaround will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Caribbean Centers for Boys and Girls of the Virgin Islands in Frederiksted.

Leagues will be formed for boys and girls in under-13 and under-17 divisions, and for men and women.

The registration fee is $75 per player, which includes the full uniform kit (jersey, shorts and socks), and insurance coverage.

Small Fry tryouts being held at Boschulte Middle School

ST. THOMAS — The St. Thomas Jaguars Small Fry Organization will be holding tryouts beginning in late October.

The tryouts will be held beginning Saturday to Dec. 15 at Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School’s Audie Henneman Gymnasium every Saturday and Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. The time is subject to change.

The age range for players is 10 to 13. Players who have not attained the age of 13 prior to Sept. 1 of the calendar year preceding tournament play and do not exceed 5 feet, 1 inches will be eligible to participate.
