VISPRD to host 3rd annual elementary softball tourney
Teams from St. Croix and St. Thomas will take part in the Virgin Islands Sports, Parks and Recreation Department’s third annual elementary school softball tournament, which begins today at Emile Griffith Ballpark on St. Thomas.
St. Thomas schools Ulla Muller Elementary School, Leonard Dober Elementary School and Lockhart Elementary School will face St. Croix’s Lew Muckle Elementary and a team from the islands’ private schools in the two-day tournament.
The tournament will conclude with the championship game at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, also at Emile Griffith Ballpark.
Thursday’s Results Varsity Soccer
Charlotte Amalie High School 3, Virgin Islands Montessori School 2: The Hawks pulled off an upset of the league-leading Volts in Thursday’s St. Thomas-St. John Interscholastic Athletic Association league match at the Antilles School field.
Pierre Antoine scored two goals and Kerby Saintil added a goal for Charlotte Amalie High. Jimson St. Louis and Isaiah Jarvis had goals for Virgin Islands Montessori.
What’s next: Antilles School will host Tortola’s Elmore Stoutt High School in a St. Thomas-St. John IAA league match at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Junior Varsity Soccer
Good Hope Country Day School 8, Elena Christian Junior High School 1: Khalil Francis and Finlay Miller scored three goals as Good Hope Country Day routed Elena Christian Junior High in Thursday’s St. Croix IAA league regular-season finale at the Good Hope Country Day School field. Jean Dongar added two goals for Good Hope Country Day, while Leon LaCane scored the lone goal for Elena Christian Junior High.
John Woodson Junior High School 2, Free Will Baptist School 1: Romello Cuffy and K’yara Simon scored one goal each as John Woodson Junior High edged Free Will Baptist in Thursday’s St. Croix IAA league regular-season finale at the Free Will Baptist School field. Somali Perez scored Free Will Baptist’s lone goal.
What’s next: The semifinals of the St. Croix IAA tournament will be held Tuesday at the Good Hope Country Day School field, with top-seeded Good Hope Country Day (8-0-0) facing fourth-seeded Elena Christian Junior High (3-5-0) at 3:30 p.m., followed by second-seeded Arthur Richards Junior High School (6-2-0) taking on third-seeded John Woodson Junior High (5-5-0) at 4:45 p.m.
Virgin Islands Montessori School 6, All Saints Cathedral School 0: Santiago Brunt and Miles Tolud scored two goals each, and Andy Bornn and Amorie Carty had one goal apiece in the Volts’ shutout St. Thomas-St. John IAA league win over the Vikings at the University of the Virgin Islands field.
Ulla Muller Elementary School 3, Virgin Islands Montessori School Too 1: Finn Hairston scored the lone goal for the Volts “B” team in their loss to Ulla Muller Elementary in Thursday’s St. Thomas-St. John IAA league match. No information was available on the goal scorers for Ulla Muller Elementary.
What’s next: One match is on the schedule today at the UVI field, with Calvary Christian Baptist School taking on All Saints Cathedral School Too at 5 p.m.
Wednesday’s Results Varsity Soccer
Central High School 4, Educational Complex High School 3 (shootout): The second-seeded Caribs edged the No. 3 seeded Barracudas in a penalty-kick shootout in the St. Croix IAA league tournament semifinals at the Good Hope Country Day School field.
After battling to a scoreless tie through regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods, the two teams were also tied 3-all after five penalty kicks in the shootout. On the sixth round of kicks, Central High’s Leo Rosa made his, while Educational Complex High missed its kick, ending the match.
Free Will Baptist School 4, Good Hope Country Day School 0: Shadiin Smith’s hat trick led the top-seeded Warriors on to a victory over the fourth-seeded Panthers in the St. Croix IAA league tourney semfinals.
Smith had three goals and Arthbert William added a goal for Free Will Baptist, with Amoy Smith getting the shutout in goal for the Warriors.
What’s next: Free Will Baptist (6-0-1) will take on Central High (4-3-0) in the championship game of the St. Croix IAA league tournament Monday at the Good Hope Country Day School field. Game time is 4 p.m.

Antilles School 3, All Saints Cathedral School 2: Three players — Matthew Meyers, Everad Penn and Jackson Watkins — had one goal each for the Hurricanes in Wednesday’s St. Thomas-St. John IAA league win over the Vikings at the Antilles School field. Kaeo Brown scored both goals for All Saints Cathedral.
Virgin Islands Montessori School 5, Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School 2: Thomas Brunt scored twice to lead the Volts past the Blazers in Wednesday’s St. Thomas-St. John IAA league match at the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School field. Gabriel Christian, Tianna Davis and Mala Tolud had one goal each for Virgin Islands Montessori. Sebastian Morales Martinez scored twice for Boschulte Middle.
What’s next: Two St. Thomas-St. John IAA league matches are scheduled for today, beginning at 4 p.m. Boschulte Middle will face All Saints Cathedral at the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School field, while Antilles School hosts Virgin Islands Montessori.
